Reminiscences

Reminiscences is a five-movement suite for concert band. Rather than telling a continuous story, each movement explores its own scene and emotions. Together, the movements create a collection of memories through contrasting moods and musical ideas.

The first movement follows the beginning of a mysterious train journey. Ominous melodies and chime effects create a feeling of uncertainty as the train departs toward an unknown destination.

The second movement serves as a fanfare, featuring powerful brass melodies and a celebratory atmosphere before transitioning into a more relaxed ending.

The third movement contrasts the fanfare with a sense of melancholy and remembrance. Emotional melodies and strong horn writing create a heavy atmosphere, while the absence of percussion contributes to a feeling of emptiness.

The fourth movement depicts a parade, driven by energetic percussion and melodic wind lines.

The fifth movement concludes the suite with excitement and joy, bringing together the energy and emotions of the previous movements into a triumphant ending.
