OpenScores music is provides free resources to help musicians, educators, students, and ensembles learn, rehearse, and perform.

Using OpenScores Music

OpenScores provides original sheet music free of charge for musicians, educators, schools, and ensembles. You are welcome to use the music for educational, rehearsal, and performance purposes as long as the original composer and OpenScores are properly credited.

Making OpenScores music available for free does not transfer ownership or copyright. All original compositions remain protected by copyright and belong to their respective composer.

You May ✅

  • Download and print OpenScores sheet music.
  • Make copies for members of your school, class, band, orchestra, chamber group, or other ensemble.
  • Use the music for rehearsals and educational activities.
  • Perform the music publicly.
  • Record and share performances on YouTube, social media, school websites, and similar platforms.
  • Use OpenScores music for school concerts, festivals, and other ensemble performances.
  • Share OpenScores music with others for educational or performance purposes, as long as it remains free and properly credited.

You May Not ❌

  • Sell or resell OpenScores scores or individual parts.
  • Include OpenScores music in a paid collection, bundle, publication, or other product without permission.
  • Claim an OpenScores composition as your own work.
  • Remove or intentionally misrepresent the name of the composer.
  • Upload OpenScores PDF files to another website and present them as your own downloads.
  • Use OpenScores music in a way that suggests you own the copyright or have created the composition yourself.
  • Modify, arrange, or alter an OpenScores composition and sellthe modified version as your own.

Performances & Recordings

Schools, ensembles, and musicians are welcome to perform OpenScores compositions and share recordings of those performances. When possible, please include the title of the composition, the composer's name, and OpenScores Hub in the program, video description, or other credits.

Charging admission to a school or ensemble concert does not automatically mean you are selling the music itself. The restriction is primarily against selling or commercially redistributing the OpenScores sheet music.

Commercial Use

OpenScores sheet music may not be sold, resold, or included in a commercial product without prior permission. If you would like to use an OpenScores composition in a publication, commercial recording, paid distribution, or another project that is not clearly covered by these terms, please contact OpenScores first.
